What is hCG?
Almost all pregnant women are faced with such a concept as hCG. But not everyone knows his definition. But precisely because of this substance, the expectant mother learns about her position through the pregnancy test. And it is precisely its indicators that are often necessary to determine the condition of a pregnant woman and the fetus. Therefore, we will tell you what hCG is and why its level should be determined during pregnancy.
So what is hCG during pregnancy? This abbreviation stands for human chorionic gonadotropin. This substance begins to be released by the embryo tissues as soon as the latter is attached to the uterine wall. This happens already in the first week of conception.
That is why at this period a pregnancy test can already show a positive result. The staining of the strip is influenced by the urinary content of gonadotropin. You may find our article on the subject useful. Can HCG be wrong?
What is HCG analysis and what is it for?
Not all pregnant women at an early stage of their position know what it is - HCG analysis and what it is intended for. In addition to the fact that it can be used to determine the presence of pregnancy, it also helps to monitor the fetus for various trimesters and detect various abnormalities in time. HCG in the urine is determined by a pregnancy test, whereas a blood test establishes not only the presence of a substance, but also its indicators (for a topic, read our article When to donate blood for hCG).
Such data is very important in order to draw conclusions about whether the fetus is developing correctly. It is important to note that the concentration of hCG in the blood of a pregnant woman increases during the first weeks every two hours. The limit of its content gonadotropin reaches 10-11 weeks, after which the level begins to decline. For example, the rate of hCG in a woman before pregnancy is usually 0-2.5 mU / ml, whereas in the first week the content is up to 156 mU / ml. In the last term it can matter up to 78,000 mU. It is very important to compare the hCG values with the norm at different times for many reasons. For example, a decrease in its level may indicate not only an error in terms, but also abnormalities in the development of the fetus or in the functions of the placenta, the threat of miscarriage, and in recent weeks - even the death of the fetus.
