Starbucks’ New Kombucha is Just What Your Gut Ordered
Starbuckstook a detour from its streak of outrageously sugary frappuccino hybrids and added a healthy probiotic drink to itsEvolution Freshline. Enter: Starbucks kombucha. The gut-friendly beverage launched in grocery stores in August 2019. You’ll find them in grocery and natural retailers in six coast-to-coast cities including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, San Diego, and Seattle, with plans to expand to additional cities in the fall and spring. The only downside is that you can’t pick up one of these Evolution Fresh kombuchas in Starbucks locations.
“We know our consumers are looking for beverages with functional benefits, and Evolution Fresh Organic Kombucha is just what they are asking for—a delicious and refreshing pick-me-up that also supports digestive wellness,” president of Evolution Fresh, Ryan Ziegelmann, said in a statement.
The organic line of kombuchas is available in six scrumptious flavors steeped with slimming teas and flavored with cold-pressed fruits and vegetables. Choose fromGinger Lemon Honeycrisp, which is made with Congou black tea, cold-pressed Honeycrisp apple, tart lemon, and ginger;Mango Pineapple, which starts with a Congou black tea base and adds flavor with cold-pressed oranges, mangos, and pineapples;Ginger Greens, which features Yerba Matè tea, cold-pressed leafy greens, lemon, and ginger;Spicy Greens, with energizing green tea, matcha, greens, pineapple, and a kick of jalapeño;Pink Grapefruit, which is brewed with pu’erh tea and a splash of bright, pink grapefruit; andTurmeric Pineapple Coconutwith Yerba Matè tea, anti-inflammatory turmeric and pineapple.
While many kombuchas can pack in upwards of 10 grams of sugar per serving, Sbux keeps the sweet stuff to a minimum. The Spicy Greens bottle has only 3 grams of sugar per 8-ounce serving; the Pink Grapefruit boasts 5 grams; Ginger Lemon Honeycrisp contains 6 grams; and the Mango Pineapple, Turmeric Pineapple Coconut, and Ginger Greens all boast 7 grams of sugar each.
