How to install a car radio?

Car radio in a modern car is an integral part of the equipment; without it, long single trips could be very, very boring. In this article we will explain how to install the car radio with your own hands in a Russian or imported car.

How to connect your car radio

What is worth considering:

  1. If you are not sure that you are reading the wiring diagram in the operating instructions or on the top of the car radio, in no case use the wiring diagram for any other car radio, as this may cause a short circuit or breakdown of the device.
  2. Most domestic cars have wiring, which is designed for the use of radio with a mechanical setting. This means that the battery power cable to the car radio goes through the ignition lock, as a result of which the electric circuit opens for a fraction of a second when the key is turned, which is enough to bring down all the settings in the volatile radio tape recorder.

Connect car radio via ISO connector

The first thing to do when installing a car radio is to secure the container.Connecting radioThe container is a steel frame that is embedded in the opening for the car stereos on the car dashboard and serves to fix the car stereo in place. It is installed quite simply - it is necessary to insert an empty container into the opening for the car radio and to bend the metal petals along its perimeter.

Next you need to find the connector standard ISO. This is a universal connector that is used on all modern cars. To install the radio through this connector, you just need to connect the connector from the radio to the same mating connector on the car, and all the functions of the car radio will be immediately available. We insert the car radio into place, and you can use it.

Connecting the car radio without an ISO connector

In most Russian-made cars, as well as in older foreign cars, the ISO connector is not provided. In this case, you need to buy it and connect it yourself to the wires of the car. All wires to connect the radio, as a rule, have different colors and markings, so it will not be so difficult to connect the connector.For the work we need:

  • knife;
  • pliers;
  • a set of stranded wires with a cross section of not less than 2.5 square meters. mm;
  • insulating tape.

The ISO connector consists of 12 cells, which are arranged in two rows of 6 pieces each.

First of all, with the help of stranded wire, you need to power up our car stereo. To do this, we connect one end of the yellow “+ 12V” wire directly to the battery through a 10A fuse, and the other end to the contact of the lower left cell of the connector.

Next to the cell, which is next to the previous one, you need to connect the red wire "ACC". This will ensure that the radio is turned on when the ignition key is turned.

The weight of the car is connected with a black wire labeled "GND" to the second cell in the top row. The antenna is connected to the first cell in the top row with the white wire “ANT”.

Next are 8 cells that are designed to connect them to the acoustics. When connecting the speakers, it is very important to observe the polarity and the place where each individual speaker is connected in order to avoid working in antiphase. The top row of cells - to connect the front speakers, the bottom row - for the rear. Marking for speakers is as follows:Connecting radio

  • FL - front left;
  • FR - front right;
  • RL - rear left;
  • RR - rear right.

You should also be careful not to connect the weight of the car instead of the speakers, because this will necessarily entail the exit of the car radio.

Some acoustics car stereos are equipped with tulip plugs; It is possible to use them only if the car’s acoustics has corresponding receiving sockets.

How to put the car radio in place

After all the wires are connected to their cells, you need to connect the car's connector to the car radio connector and turn it on. NecessaryConnecting radiocheck the quality of reception of radio stations, as well as the work of the speakers at high volume. If everything works fine, then you need to carefully install the car radio in the container, where the snap-in side latches securely fasten it.

To get the car radio back in case something stopped working, you can use two flat keys, which are usually supplied with the car radio. You need to remove the front panel of the car, insert the keys on the sides and pull out the device.
